Rebel Market Program Overview
Rebel Market, created by Catalyst & Co., serves over 200 community members, artists and cultural bearers monthly. We empower these communities to break free from traditional constraints and forge new paths. The arts ecosystem often mirrors broader societal inequities, with creatives facing challenges like income insecurity, high debt, and limited assets.
The Rebel Market event series celebrates creativity, community, and sacred commerce, rooted in the 8 forms of Capital. We love the idea of community currency and cooperatives, and strive to catalyze these into action. We're in a "Market Research" stage and aim to launch a Community Exchange Currency, with each participant helping to shape how we do this together!
Nicole Franco, catalyst of Rebel Market, shares her vision: "The economy is changing, and our community is full of opportunity. It's time to be creative and find new ways to thrive. Rebel Market is a space where we co-create and share our creativity with others, igniting a powerful force for change."
Rebel Market is also exploring new models of equitable contracting between artists and cultural institutions. Rather than focusing on rigid deliverables, we prioritize true partnerships and collaboration. This helps catalyze a movement towards non-hierarchical, cooperative structures that are led by artists themselves. By rethinking traditional power dynamics, we can create more sustainable, community-driven models to support the creative class.
The Rebel Market event series is a social experiment to catalyze a movement towards more equitable and community-driven models in the arts and creative sectors.

Rebel Market is not just a marketplaceā€”it's a movement that challenges the norms of conventional commerce and embraces the power of creativity as the greatest form of rebellion. Nicole's belief in creativity's transformative force and its potential to drive positive change has inspired the creation of Rebel Market.
It's a vibrant space where artists, makers, healers, and changemakers can come together to invest in each other, sharing skills, networking, and engaging in the spirit of buy, sell, trade, and barter. Rebel Market is not just about transactions; it's about building a community circular economy. We believe in supporting local businesses, creatives, changemakers and entrepreneurs by creating a platform for connection and exchange.
